We're getting close to previous warm period peaks, but not quite there yet.

Fossil fuels: wood, coal, natural gas, and oil, used to produce heat, energy, and products create polluted soils, water, and air, they overload the atmosphere and trap heat which drives the Earth’s temperature up. These exist as human-created events.?

The Earth’s magnetic poles may change, the rhythms of day and night may change, the seasons may change, the growing zones may change, the Earth may crack open and exhaust fire and brimstone.?

With these changes, the Earth continues to have trapped CO2 gas, an overloaded atmosphere and trapped heat that drive’s the Earth’s surface temperature to change and produce patterns of airflow and prevailing winds to change.?

The real question is, can we thrive, and more importantly, can we survive these changes?

Trump reading 'Scary Immigrant Bedtime Stories' to Uncle Sam (America), both ignoring the giant Climate Change monster spider that's under, and literally lifting, the bed

I've said that, as a senior, climate change won't effect me much.

Andrea Dutton

?...?while the majority of Americans understand that global warming is happening, only a fraction of them believe that it will affect them personally. Some of the elderly people who have come to listen to me speak about climate change shrug it off, telling me it’s something that they won’t have to worry about in their lifetime.

As it turns out, 25 percent of the population in Paradise, CA was over the age of 65. And last year after Hurricane Irma swept across the Florida peninsula, several residents of a?nursing home in Hollywood?(FL), literally cooked to death in the sweltering heat while the power was out.

Climate change affects all of us. In our lifetimes. Even if you live in a place called Paradise or Hollywood. [emphasis mine]

Super Typhoon Yutu appears to be the fifth-strongest storm ever to make landfall globally, and the second-strongest ever to hit U.S. soil. Yutu lashed Tinian and Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands, a U.S. territory. “Tinian has been devastated.” said Mayor Joey P. San Nicolas?in a video?posted to Facebook.??Around 52,000 people live on the islands, with the majority based in Saipan and some 6 percent in Tinian. [order changed, light editing]

Worst storm in nearly 100 years leaves U.S. islands devastated

Thanks, Joan. Yes it's excellent.

The Stockholm report argues that: “Collective human action is required to steer the Earth System away from a potential threshold and stabilize it in a habitable interglacial-like state. Such action entails stewardship of the entire Earth System — biosphere, climate and societies — and could include decarbonization of the global economy, enhancement of biosphere carbon sinks, behavioral changes, technological innovations, new governance arrangements and transformed social values.” [emphasis mine]

We don't normally think of stewardship of societies, one of our greatest survival challenges.

Crawford Kilian reviews the climate science that we face a desperate global struggle. Then says...

… mass migration … has been the default human response to climate change and food shortages for at least 200,000 years. But where would the billions of South and East Asia go? West, to Central Asia and the Middle East? Likely to be hot, hostile and even less fertile than now. North, to Siberia? Even after Siberia’s forests burn, they will leave little but scorched muskeg and melting permafrost, useless for farming.

We in North America and Europe think we’re hard done by because the first few climate refugees are tentatively knocking on our doors. Three billion climate refugees with nuclear weapons in their luggage wouldn’t bother to knock.

If We Can’t Stop Hothouse Earth, We’d Better Learn to Live on It
